Bakker Repair + Services repairs electric motor faster than original supplier

Bakker Repair + Services managed to repair an electric motor for a nitrogen compressor from Linde Gas within a record time of three weeks. The Sliedrecht based company came to the rescue when Linde Gas’s own supplier needed more than six weeks to deliver the defected part.

The 16.5-megawatt electric motor is essential to Linde Gas for the production of nitrogen for natural gas at its production site in IJmuiden. Since the motor failed, an old motor with less capacity had to take over, but this situation could not last too long.

When Linde Gas’s own Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) indicated he needed six weeks or more to supply the vital coil of the rotor, the company called its maintenance and repair partner Bakker Repair + Services. Bakker duplicated the part and repaired the motor in half the lead time, thus helping out Linde Gas.

The 35-tonne giant motor was dismantled at the production site in IJmuiden and transported with special road transport to Sliedrecht. There, the new part was built in and the motor was repaired. Due to the urgency of the repair, Linde Gas used Bakker’s 24/7 service. That company worked seven days a week, 20 hours a day, to complete the project. Within three weeks, the repaired motor was transported back to Linde Gas IJmuiden and reinstalled on site.

,,This motor could not be out of service for six weeks and had to be operational again as soon as possible,” says account manager Rob van Tilburg from Bakker Repair + Services. ,,The supplier would need at least six weeks to supply the part, but Linde Gas could not wait that long. As Bakker we have shown in this situation that we can duplicate and deliver such a component with the same quality, but much faster than the original supplier. That is our strength.”
