P&O Ferries carry approximately 9 million passengers between Great Britain and Europe’s main land. The vessel’s electrical components, such as bow thrusters, are inspected yearly by Bakker Repair + Services to safeguard a safe transit. These inspections showed that two bow thrusters and one generator needed repairing or overhauling.
During the annual inspection, our service engineer concluded that the bow thruster of the “Pride of Bruges” was not in order because the rotor bars had broken. Bakker Repair + Services offered to disassemble the bow thruster for repair. Further inspection of the bow thruster in the workshop showed that the lamination of the rotor needed repairing. Therefore, we restored the lamination while rewinding the rotor.
Based on the annual inspection on board the “Pride of Rotterdam”, Bakker Repair + Services offered to rewind the vessel’s bow thruster and generator in its workshop. The generator was disassembled on site because of its large dimensions. The separate components were transported to the workshop for repair.
After finishing, both the bow thruster and generator were assembled on site, and later on commissioned.
Besides these repairs, Bakker Repair + Services also assisted with repairing an exciter of a generator after a technical failure on board the “Spirit of Britain”.
